Leam, a silver haired Badgre, crouched in the shadows, keeping his eyes on a flitting shape across from his. He narrowed his eyes, his eyebrows coming together in his confusion. He thingyed his head to the right to better see the shape. A squirrel? No, it can't be. He pushed the thoughts away, shaking his head. He finally stood. Looking around to make sure noone was watching, he flung himself through the dimly lighted streets and landed with a thud on the other side, clutching the creature to his chest. He stroked its silver fur to calm it, then realized that it was exactly what he was looking for.
With a smile, he hugged the badger closer, admiring the black rings around his mysterious eyes. The badger, small, confused, and alone, screeched. Leam wrapped a hand around his muzzle, silencing him. "Quiet." He hissed, lowering his voice. "I shouldn't be here." He whispered, suddenly remembering the poster; A large picture of him, the word Missing above his head, the large number portraiting the amount of money for his reward. He blinked back tears, sitting down with his back to the wall.
He held up the badger towards the light, examining it for cuts, bruises and broken bones. He found a large cut on his back right paw, which explained the limping. He pulled a bottle the size of a silver dollar from his back pocket and tapped one drop onto the paw. It fizzed up, causing the badger to yelp in fright, but it healed the cut almost instantly. "I'll name you Moon. After the color of your fur, of your eyes, of your rings." He said quietly, stroking the silver fur.

Jess silently skipped through the shadows, occasionally bounding into the light and doing a few twirls. She loved being a shade lurker, allowing her to go in most types of light and darkness. She turned the corner and ran along the wall, skidding to a hault as she nearly ran into a figure. She tumbled backwards, landing in a daze, and stared at Leam with a tilted head. "Uh, Hello," She said, her eyes still dancing.

"Oh, um." He stuttered, his eyes opening wide. Placing the badger in his bag, he ran, down the streets and into the open. He whirled, coming out onto a busy street, then turned and ran as fast as he could back in the direction he had come. He saw the girl a second time, this time he couldn't pull his eyes away from her. He tripped, sprawling across the street and landing on his stomach.
Moon grumbled in protest. "A little bit gentler would have been nice." He chirped.
"Sorry." He replied, examining his bleeding knees with practice. He took a second glance at a grazed elbow, then at his ankle, which was bleeding from his knife, which he had landed on. He clenched his teeth and bit his lip, narrowing his eyes against the pain.

Jess had pushed herself to her feet as he ran, and then watched with an amused expression as he ran down her way again. Amusement fell to horror as he tripped and fell, and she raced over to him out in the open, her hand resting on his shoulder. "Are you alright?" She gasped, eyes flashing with worry. She didnt know who the boy was, or why he was running, but she felt she should help him.

Leam's body shook as she touched him. "Please, just leave me alone." He cried out, backing into the shadows, tears streaming down his cheeks. "Let's hope this works." He murmered to himself, pulling out a plastic bottle filled with blue liquid. He emptied it onto the cut, but it ran off instantly. He lifted the bottle to the light. The lable, though torn at the edges, was still ledgible. Poison. Do not use on cuts or burns. He stared in shook, his fingers trembling. The bottle slipped from his fingers and bounced off the cobblestones.

Jess jumped to her feet and stared after Leam, her shaded eyes allowing her to see into the darkness. She saw him drop the bottle and her sharp eyes picked up the writing. "What are you doing!?" She cried out, "Are you trying to kill yourself?"

"I didn't know!" He cried in anguish.
Moon crawled out of his backpack and scurried around the edge of the puddle of poison. He looked up at Jess, chattering impatiently.
"Moon, leave her be." He said, looking at his feet.

Jess let out an exasperated hiss, holding out her had despretly. "Come on," She cried, "I can help you, we just have to hurry." Her eyes were pleading and kind, reflecting her kind soul. She didnt mean the boy any harm, she wanted to help him. She couldnt just leave and let him die, not if she could do anything about it.

Leam took the hand, staggering to his feet. He took a few wobbly steps around the liquid to reach down and pick up Moon. "Hey put me down!" Moon hissed. "No." Leam snapped, hopping the girl wouldn't think him crazy. He hobbled towards her, pausing for a moment.

Jess frowned slightly, grabbing his hand and wrapping her other arm over his shoulder. She then began leading him to the fountain just down the street, her eyes narrowed unhappily. "If your hand starts burning like it is on fire, tell me," She said, "That means the poison has gotten into your blood and we are going to have to get it out." She dunked the wound into the fountain, rubbing it with her gentle fingers to try and wash off the poison.

Leam bit his lip, seeing another poster. He half-sighed half-gasped as he realized Jess's eyes might find it. He dropped Moon as his hand began to throb and burn. "Jess!" He said anxiously, shoving his hand into the water.
Moon snarled angrily, turning to sit down on the wet pavement, pouting.

Jess sighed and lifted his hand. "Close you eyes if you must," She said, putting her lips to the cut and gently sucking to pull out the poison. She continued until the burning bitter taste was gone and it was just salty, and she spat it out onto the ground beside her. She cupped the water and pulled it to her lips, washing it around her mouth a bit and repeating that a few times. "Does it still burn?" She asked, wiping her mouth. Dark circles formed under her eyes, but she didnt give it a second thought.

"Not anymore. Thank you, Jess." He said quietly, scooping up Moon. "I'm sorry to have caused you trouble." He added, scooting around her to block her view of the poster.

Jess shook her head slightly, a smile playing on her lips. "Its no problem really," She said, "I would rather be saving lives then doing nothing in the shadows." She noticed him scoot around though she kept her eyes on him. "Ive seen the poster already," She said, without expression.

"Oh." He said, not sure what to make of it. "Jess? Can I ask you something?" He asked curiously, looking at Moon's eye rings.
Moon chirruped in his ear, "She saved her life, at least thank her."
Leam did a sort of bow towards Jess. "Thank you, Jess, for saving me. Else I wouldn't be standing here to say so."
